Daily Devotional: Psalms 124:1-8
Ps 124:1-8
If the Lord had not been on our side — let Israel say — if the Lord had not been on our side when men attacked us, when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive; the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away. Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Heb 13:5-6
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So, we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
Remember the fun little thing we have all done with someone we love? “I love you.” “I love you more.” “No, I love you more.” No, I love you double more” and it goes on and on to show just how strong our love is for that person.
Well, God loves you (and me) more! He originated love. He introduced love to mankind. God is love. He loves us even when we are his enemies. He loves us so much that he sent his special, unique Son to die in our place, for our sin! That is the love of God! This is the love that motivates him to take care of us when we face our trials. Since he has done so much, he will do whatever we need.
When we really believe this, we can be free from worry. He knows that this world is not our final home but is just a testing ground to get us ready to be with him in eternity. Our beautiful homes here will be done away with. This great nation in which we live will disappear at his word (along with all the others). Bank accounts and material things will all be gone. Life is not about here on earth.
Our earthly bodies will be replaced with heavenly ones, bodies with no sickness or frailties or imperfections. The more we can fix our eyes on Jesus and on the things above where he is seated at the right hand of God, the less we will fret and worry about what is happening all around us. Are we concerned about things? Yes, we are! Are we anxious, not knowing the outcome? No! Jesus has won the victory!
My Father who is in heaven, Holy is your name in all the earth! Thank you for your wonderful love shown to me and to all mankind. Thank you for sending Jesus to be my Savior and for showing me how to live for you. Thank you for raising him from the grave so that I know the victory is already secured for me in eternity. Use me here to help others and to be what you want me to be. Please give healing to Lakley, a seven-year-old girl who is so sick. I pray in the name of Jesus.
