Daily Devotional: Psalms 128:1-6
Ps 128:1-6
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.
3 John 2-4
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
What a joy indeed to hear that those we love are faithfully serving the Lord! This is especially true when it is our children. This past week I witnessed a young girl being baptized into Christ and saw the tears of joy coming from her parents and her grandparents. What a joy! What a blessing for a young person to give their life to Christ and to determine to live for him. Children are a heritage of the Lord.
We must teach our children to love the Lord and to want to follow Jesus. This includes taking them to church regularly but it is much more than just this. We must talk about God at home. We must let them know that Jesus is important to us, other than when we go to church. They MUST see that God is a priority in our lives and not just a weekend interest, or when it is convenient. We may fool a lot of people, but seldom do we really fool our children. They see and they know.
May God’s peace be on his people today. We are spiritual Israel, and we belong to him. It is sad to see so many of his family that cannot get along or who refuse to even acknowledge others in the family. Jesus said that his disciples would be known by their love for each other. We may not always agree with each other on every issue, but we can still be at peace. When we lay aside our ego and do away with being critical and judgmental, we go a long way toward having peace.
O Lord God, I know that I mess up in things I say or fail to say. I know that I am still learning, so there are things where I am still wrong or fail to understand. As I seek to grow more and more into the likeness of Jesus, help me give up self and let him become more of who I am. Use me to help others by being kind, patient, loving, and tender-hearted. Thank you for being all of these to me. Give your healing to those who are sick and those who are hurting. Be with our nation and give us leaders who will seek your wisdom. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
