Ps 136:1-9
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever. who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever. who made the great lights — His love endures forever. the sun to govern the day, His love endures forever. the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.
Acts 17:24-27
"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
James says that the God who made us jealously desires us. He wants us to serve him while we are on earth and then to dwell with him in eternity. God always wants what is best for us. But what is best for us and what we think is best for us may not be the same – and often it is not. God always knows best. He is getting us ready for eternal life. He is using us to help others reach that same goal.
But why all the pain and suffering here on earth? Why so much evil? Why so much hatred, fighting, murders, and strife? Why are little children allowed to be abused, or get cancer, or have to go hungry? There are multiple answers, some we do not know, and many we may not understand. But it all goes back to sin and its result.
God made perfect people and put them in a perfect world. “God saw that it was all very good.” It was not his plan to have all that we have to deal with. Satan entered with his lies and deception, and Adam and Eve gave in and sinned.
O Lord God, you made me perfect, in your image, but I have sinned and broken that relationship into which I was born. But by my faith and by your grace, you have forgiven me through the sacrifice and the blood of Jesus, your Son and my Savior. Thank you for your love and your mercy. Your love abides forever! Increase my faith, and mold me into your image so others will see the love of Jesus in me, all day, every day. Thank you for all you have done for me and continue to do for me each day, in more ways than I can even know. I pray in Jesus’ name.
