Daily Devotional: Psalms 136:16-26
Ps 136:16-26
to him who led his people through the desert, His love endures forever. who struck down great kings, His love endures forever. and killed mighty kings — His love endures forever. Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever. and Og king of Bashan — His love endures forever. and gave their land as an inheritance, His love endures forever. an inheritance to his servant Israel; His love endures forever. to the One who remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever. and freed us from our enemies, His love endures forever. and who gives food to every creature. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.
Eph 2:3-5
All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of the flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.
We were recently watching a TV show and there was an old man talking with his grown son about their similarities. The young man told his dad that he loved him. The old man sat silent for a moment and then said: “you are my son, so I have to love you too.” While he had a hard time expressing it, he loved his son.
God loves you and he loves me. Not because of what we have accomplished. His love is not because we always please him or because our lives have turned out to be so grand. He loves us because he made us, we are his. We may turn away from him or even turn against him, but he still loves us. He loves us because “God is love.” He is the source of all true love. God is the reason we know how to love.
That man, that woman, that we really don’t like or that person who has been hateful, or those people who seek our demise, or even our worst enemies, God loves them, and he wants us to love them too! This is the kind of love that will cause us to seek their good, to do what is best for them, to do all we can to help them to want to accept Jesus as Lord and show them the way to God.
O Lord God, creator and sustainer of all things, thank you for loving me when I do not deserve to be loved. Thank you for showing me how to love others. Thank you for all those who have shown love to me, even when I make it difficult to be loved. Lord, there are people that I see as enemies of all I consider to be right, so I ask you to change their hearts and help them to want to come to Jesus and accept your love for them. Help those who have lost someone they love and give them your peace and your comfort. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
