Daily Devotional: Psalms 141:5b-10

Ps 141:5b-10

Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers; their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken. They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave." But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign Lord; in you I take refuge — do not give me over to death. Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, from the traps set by evildoers. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.

Heb 12:2-3

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

In a Bible class recently, there was a “thought question” that asked if there are any cities today that are as wicked as Sodom when it was destroyed. Interesting. There was a good bit of discussion, with some cities even being named. The conclusion is that we are not able to know what God knows and we may not measure with the same infinite standard that he uses, so, we don’t know for sure.

There is a lot of evil in the world. The world was filled with wickedness when God sent the flood. The people were filled with pride and rejected God when they tried to build the tower to heaven and God confused their language, scattering them over the earth. Since that time, there has been a prevalence of evil because so many people refuse to acknowledge God as God and worship his creation instead of him as the creator. In their pride, they fail to give him thanks.

But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign Lord; in you I take refuge. So, Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. To win a race, one must keep their mind and their eyes on the finish line. No matter what the sport, if it involves a ball, we hear the coach say to “keep your eyes on the ball.” As we make our way through life, we are headed for a new land, a new city, a place we call heaven where Jesus is seated at the right hand of God. We must keep our eyes on Jesus and on heaven. Do not ever give up, don’t quit, don’t wander off. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

O Lord God, what a blessing to be your child and to know that you are watching out for me and protecting me. In spite of all the bad things that happen to me and to those I love, I know that you are always near and that you will give me what is best for me – just what I need at the moment. Thank you! Use me to be that moment of encouragement, that ray of light, the hand of help, or whatever is needed for those who are seeking you. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
