Daily Devotional: Proverbs 3:21-27

Prov 3:21-27

My son, do not lose sight of these—keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

Gal 6:8-10

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

True wisdom will lead us to follow the will of God in our lives. It will protect us in times of trouble – and these times do come to all of us. God has never promised to take away our troubles or to put us above them, but he has promised to be with us through them and give us the strength to endure. Sometimes this means that one will not survive this world, but the Lord will walk with us through the valley of death, taking us to that eternal home to live with him.

While we are here on earth, we are to allow his Spirit to work in us and to help us become more like Jesus every day. He will endow us with wisdom. He will give us strength to carry on in hard times. He will give us peace that is beyond our ability to understand, and peace that the world cannot know.

His wisdom teaches us to be kind to others. It teaches us to not be selfish but to do good and help others as we have opportunities to do so. To hoard what we have been given and to act like it is actually ours, is greed, which is idolatry. God is generous with us in more ways than we even know, so we are to share and be generous with others, using that which he has placed in our stewardship.

O Lord God, great and holy is your name above all the earth. Praise to the Lamb who was slain but who lives forever! As your servant, use me to serve others and help me to not be selfish but to be generous as the need arises. As I sit in the comfort of my home, I am reminded of those who serve you and have none of this world’s goods and who are often hungry yet trust you every day to give them food to eat. Help me be more aware and more thankful for what you give me. Give peace to those who are anxious and are hurting. I pray in the name of Jesus.
