Daily Devotional: Proverbs 10:24-28
Prov 10:24-28
What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established forever. Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short. The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.
Ps 32:1-4
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
When one lives a wicked life, they must deal with a guilty conscience day and night. Always looking over their shoulder with a fear of being caught. Trying to excuse themselves by rationalizing their behavior. It is a miserable way to live, with both fear and anxiety. Unless one has given themselves over to live for the devil, they will have an innate moral compass that guides them toward right.
The wonderful thing about life is that we can give ourselves to God, putting all our trust in him, and then we can have a life of inner peace and a sense of knowing our life is worthwhile, filled with meaning. When we sin, we repent of it and know that God has forgiven us completely. No matter how bad the things we have done, the Lord will not count it against us because his forgiveness is complete.
As we get older, we tend to think more about dying. This is not from fear or some morbid sense of dwelling on the negative side of things. It is just a realization that we are mortal, and our life will end. For the faithful child of God, this becomes an anticipation instead of fear. We can envision the pictures of heaven that God has given to us, and we look forward to being with Jesus in eternity.
O Lord God, my heavenly Father, it is such a joy to know that my sins are forgiven and that all the bad things I have done in my life have been removed from the eternal record. When I accepted your love for me in Jesus, it took away my fear of punishment. It is because of this that I can rejoice, even in the midst of trials. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for your grace shown to me in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, my Lord and my Savior. Be with our nation and give us leaders that will respect you as God and who will follow your wisdom. I pray in the name of Jesus.
