Daily Devotional: Proverbs 24:1-7
Prov 24:1-7
1 Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, 2 for their hearts devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble. 3 By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; 4 by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. 5 A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might, 6 for by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in abundance of counselors there is victory. 7 Wisdom is too high for a fool; in the gate he does not open his mouth.
1 Cor 5:6-8
Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I like to wear light colored clothes. I have several pairs of white pants and then more that are off-white and some light khaki. The problem with this is that I am not the most careful person about what I touch or lean against, so very often I end up with dirt or even grease on my pants. But in all my years I have never seen white on the things that I rub against. The white just doesn’t come off on it.
One rotten apple will ruin a whole barrel of apples. But a barrel of good apples will never cure the rotten apple. While we are to be a good example for those around us, and we are to try to influence others to do right, more often than not, the bad in people rubs off on good folks more than the other way around. This is why we are warned not to be deceived, because bad company ruins good morals.
The legal term “accomplice” is used for one who helps someone commit a crime, but it is often applied to one who was just present and didn’t do anything to stop the crime. In the pursuit of wisdom, we must stay away from the fools. The fool is the person who is not wise, and the wise person is the one who orders their life after the teaching from God. The fool does not consider the consequences of his or her action but the wise person always takes it into account.
My Father who is in heaven, holy is your name in all the earth. Your majesty is beyond my comprehension. Your power is unfathomable, and your wisdom is far beyond my ability to know. Yet, even in your majesty, you know my name and you know all of my struggles and my trials, and you care. Give me wisdom to know how to live for you and to be what you want me to become. Use me to be a good influence for others as I try to reflect Jesus in my life. Give your peace to those who are hurting and struggling in their lives. I ask this in the name of Jesus.
