Daily Devotional: Psalms 3:1-4
Ps 3:1-4
O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. Selah But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
Col 1:11-14
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Lord is my strength, he is my rock in times of storm. When the battles rage and the enemy attacks with his strongest weapon, the Lord will be with me, and he will fight my battles for me. This is a lesson that David learned when he was a boy in the field, keeping his father’s sheep. There was a time when a lion came and tried to take some sheep and another time it was a bear, but he killed them both. He attributed this to the power of God, so when he faced the giant, he called on that same strength from God. We can use his power too.
One of the great blessings we enjoy in Jesus is being empowered by the Spirit of God who lives in us. Whatever we face in life, he is with us, and he will help us. Do not worry about anything because the Lord is near, we can do all things in him who gives us strength. But we must trust him, trust his power in us, trust his timing, and trust his wisdom. His way will often seem foolish to us and to our way of thinking, but the Lord knows best. In him we have eternal life!
The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and reasonable. So, when we are maligned, we bless in return. When someone slaps us, we turn the other cheek. When others try to harm us, we pray for them and do them good. It goes against everything in us, but this is his way. “Vengeance is mine, I will repay says the Lord. Therefore, leave room for his wrath.” This requires genuine faith, which is absolute unwavering trust in Jesus, in his way, and in his strength.
O Lord God, give me your wisdom, fill me with your Spirit, and help me live in such a way that your love will be perfected in me. Increase my faith so that when others say things about me, I just dismiss it and trust you to take care of it. When things go badly in my life, give me patience to wait on you. Keep me from being negative in my attitude, but instead, use me to encourage others, lift them up, and help them in their struggles. Thank you for blessing me with your grace in Jesus Christ. In his name I pray.
