Daily Devotional: Psalms 5:1-8

Ps 5:1-8

Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my groaning. Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray. O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.

3 John 11

Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.

God hates all evil because it goes against his very nature. The one evil thing that is at the top of his list of evil things that he abhors is pride. This is because pride fails to recognize that God is in control. God is supreme in every aspect of life. There is nothing in creation that is above him or deserves respect or adoration over him, over his holy name, or over his majesty. Jehovah is the only true God.

Jesus is Lord. Nothing that has been made was made without him. He is the one who sustains everything that exists. God the Father has given Jesus the Son all authority, all power, both in heaven and on earth. He is worthy to be praised as our Savior because he gave himself for us and for our sin so that we can be with him and with the Father in eternity. Jesus is the name above all names.

We serve God the Father, and we worship Jesus because of the love they have shown to us in more ways than we can possibly even know. The heavenly grace that is given to us extends to every part of our physical life as well as to every part of our spiritual lives. We are who we are by his grace. We are what we are by his grace. Every blessing and every good thing that happens to us is because of his grace. It is the good that we do not deserve but he gives us because of his love.

O Lord God, open my eyes to see your grace extended to me in so many ways that I normally do not see or acknowledge. Thank you for the parents you gave me at birth. Thank you for the opportunity of being born in this country and at this time in history. Thank you for the mental capacity you have given me and the ability to use it to your glory. Thank you for the many wonderful fellow disciples of Jesus you have put into my life to teach me and to encourage me. Help me be a blessing to others around me as I show them your love. I pray in the name of Jesus.
