Daily Devotional: Psalms 6:6-10
Ps 6:6-10
I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping. The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer. All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment.
Phil 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Life is filled with trouble. Most of us will never face what King David faced in his life, but we have our share of problems. In the early days, he was told by God that he would be the next king of Israel. The problem was that King Saul was alive and very jealous, so he tried every way he could to kill David. He was the number one fugitive in the land and at times, Saul mustered the entire army in the manhunt.
But God was with David. On at least two occasions David had the opportunity to kill Saul but refused because he was God’s anointed. He reasoned that God did not need his intervention and he would take care of Saul in his own time. It would surely have made David’s life easier if he had killed him, but he left vengeance up to God. Life was hard for David, but he always trusted God to take care of him.
Life is filled with trouble for all of us. When we are younger, we have family and children problems, career battles, financial setbacks, and relationship issues. As we get older, our bodies seem to wear out and parts begin to fail. As we live longer, our close family and friends begin to leave us, one by one, alone in life.
On some days it would be easy to give up on life and on God. But the Lord is always near to us. He offers the strength of the Spirit daily to infuse us and keep us going, but we must open our hearts to him. It is a daily (or hourly) battle, so ask for his help and then accept his strength. Then by faith, keep going in Jesus.
O Lord God, thank you for the power of your Spirit that you give me daily to keep me going when life gets hard. Thank you for the wisdom he imparts when I don’t know which way to go or what to do. Thank you for the encouragement he puts into my heart when I get down and get depressed. Increase my faith so that I really know beyond doubt that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. You are an awesome God! I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
