Daily Devotional: Psalms 16:6-11

Ps 16:6-11

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.  I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Phil 1:8-11

For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Doing what is right and helping others do right makes life worthwhile. But this can also be a very discouraging effort because it is hard for me to always do what is right. I get tired. I get grumpy. I get discouraged and even depressed at times. It is easy to want to give up and quit. It is in these moments when I am looking inward at poor pitiful me, instead of looking at Jesus, that a small child will be excited to see me and give me a hug or an adult will express gratitude because I helped them see the joy of salvation, that I realize what I am doing is worthwhile.

When this happens, I am made more aware of the fact that I do not tell others how much they mean to me and how much they encourage me and how much they fill my life with joy and purpose. If you are reading this, then you are one of the ones that I am referring to. I am not asking for compliments or praise, I am just explaining how it is on the “other end” of these things.

Paul’s prayer for the Philippians is my sentiment and my prayer for you today. It is my prayer that one day I will be able to meet those of you whom I have never met on earth. Then with Jesus, our mutual goals will have been accomplished!

O Lord God, awesome and mighty, wise and loving, I thank you for all the people in my life who encourage me and help me every day. Thank you for my family that shows me so much love and thank you for my spiritual family who also loves me and helps me in so many ways. Thank you for Jesus and for all he has done for me and all he has made possible for me. Thank you for all he does for me every day of my life. Give peace and healing to those who are sick, having surgery, getting over surgeries, having tests, and having treatments. I pray in the name of Jesus.
